2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). CGTN starts a special program “Vision into Reality”, inviting hosts and guests from China, Pakistan, Kenya, Greece and Argentina to talk about the results their countries have experienced under the framework of BRI, and what went on behind the scenes. Xie Tao, dean of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy at Beijing Foreign Studies University, told the story of how he witnessed the Accra port construction project in Ghana benefiting local economic development. Peter Kagwanja, president and chief executive of Africa Policy Institute, emphasized that the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) allowed Africa to export goods to the Americas and Europe through the Indian Ocean. Without the BRI this dream would never come true.

The Indian Ocean is the third-largest of the world’s oceanic divisions, covering 70,560,000 km² or 19.8% of the water on Earth’s surface. It is bounded by Asia to the north, Africa to the west and Australia to the east. To the south it is bounded by the Southern Ocean or Antarctica, depending on the definition in use.
Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country in South Asia. It has a population exceeding 212.2 million, including the world’s second-largest Muslim population. It has an area of 881,913 square kilometres (340,509 square miles).
Pakistan has a 1,046-kilometre (650-mile) coastline along the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest, and China to the northeast. It is separated narrowly from Tajikistan by Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor in the northwest, and also shares a maritime border with Oman.
