Breonna Taylor protests: Louisville police say 2 officers shot responding to “large crowd”

Global News published this video item, entitled “Breonna Taylor protests: Louisville police say 2 officers shot responding to “large crowd”” – below is their description.

Louisville, Ky. interim police chief Robert Schroeder on Wednesday said that two officers had been shot and one suspect was in custody after responding to a “large crowd” of people in the city amid ongoing protests after a grand jury failed to bring charges against the city’s police for the killing of Breonna Taylor. He said that as they deployed to investigate the crowd, shots were fired. One officer is in stable condition, the other officer is undergoing surgery but is in stable condition. Schroeder said he is concerned about the safety of his officers and that community safety is of utmost importance. The only charges brought by the grand jury in Taylor’s death, which occurred during a drug raid gone wrong, saw now-fired officer Brent Hankison facing three counts of wanton endangerment for shooting into Taylor’s neighbours’ homes during the raid on March 13. Prosecutors say the two officers that fired the weapons which hit and killed the Black woman were justified in using force to protect themselves. The FBI is still investigating potential violations of federal law in the case.
