President Joe Biden on Wednesday expressed condolences to the people of Lebanon, one year after a massive explosion at Beruit’s port killed at least 217 people.
“On this day of mourning, I send my deepest condolences to all those who were injured or lost loved ones and all those still struggling to recover from this trauma,” Biden said in a video message played at an international conference on Lebanon aimed at raising money for the country’s humanitarian needs.
Lebanon is going through the worst economic and financial crisis of its modern history, and a political stalemate has kept the country without a functioning government for a full year.
