Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Barbados hosts conference on slavery, reparations” – below is their description.
Delegates from around the world have met in Barbados to discuss reparations for what’s been called one of the worst crimes against humanity – the transatlantic slave trade.
At least 12 million Africans were transported across the Atlantic to the Americas and Caribbean islands to be sold into slavery.
Since the abolition of slavery in the United Kingdom and United States, no reparations have been made to the victims of slavery. The meeting could be the first step towards atonement.
Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports from Bridgetown, Barbados.
