At least 20 people were injured in a suicide bombing at an Indonesian Catholic cathedral on March 28, 2021. The blast in the city of Makassar, in South Sulawesi, is believed to be carried out by two members of the pro-Islamic State extremist group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD). Police say both of the bombing suspects were killed after driving a motorbike into the cathedral grounds and setting off an improvised explosive device, also known as a pressure cooker bomb. Indonesian President Joko Widodo condemned the assault as “acts of terrorism”.
