At least 15 people were killed and five injured when a five-story building in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, collapsed on July 17, local media reported. Following an initial investigation, Egyptian authorities said the collapse was likely caused by one of the ground floor residents who removed several walls during earlier maintenance work. The building in the Hadayek el Kobba neighborhood north of central Cairo was in a dense informal housing area. Search and rescue is underway.
