Conflicts in human societies have led to resolutions and compromises, but sometimes unfortunately to tragedies. And while some traditional practices and performing arts have faded into history, others have been revived or even given a new lease on life.
In Tajikistan, there have long been concerns about the high suicide rates among young women. A special commission has even been set up to investigate the trend. Many point to domestic violence and the lack of an open environment for addressing the issue. Natalie Carney traveled to Dushanbe to find out more.
Over in Taiwan, budaixi, or glove puppetry, arrived on the island in the 19th century from the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian. Typically performed at religious and festive occasions, it quickly became a popular form of entertainment.
