Talks between city authorities and taxi operators in South Africa’s Cape Town have stalled.

Minibus taxi drivers have been on strike for nearly a week, angry with traffic laws they say are unfairly targeting the industry.

The strike has seen days of violence and transport disruption.

US President Joe Biden has designated a large swathe of land near the Grand Canyon as a national monument, fulfilling a years-old push by environmentalists and Indigenous communities to preserve the area.

Niger’s political crisis sees no sign of abating.

West African leaders are expected to meet on Thursday to discuss their response to the generals who deposed Niger’s elected president in a surprise coup two weeks ago.
