Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and chief medical officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide an update on the COVID-19 situation in the province on Thursday.
The fifth wave of COVID-19 continues to grow exponentially in the province fueled by the Omicron variant.
There were 6,789 new cases discovered on January 11 bringing the total active cases in the province to 61,229, the highest ever recorded in Alberta.
Because of the current PCR test eligibility, Alberta health officials have said the number of people currently infected with COVID-19 is much higher than the reported case count.
Hospitalizations from COVID-19 increased again Wednesday to 748, up from 708 on Tuesday. ICU admissions increased slightly to 82, up from 80 on Tuesday.
