South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Afghanistan faces ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ this winter, warns UN food agency” – below is their description.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that Afghanistan faces a “humanitarian catastrophe” this winter without international intervention. The UN food agency says US$200 million in food aid is needed to avoid running out of core supplies by October. UN officials say only a few weeks remain to secure funding to get food in place before transport links are blocked by snow in Afghanistan’s mountainous areas. Key supplies have already been held up by the closure of Kabul airport to commercial flights after the country’s recent fall to the Taliban.
