ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “ABC analyst Casey Briggs examines the data behind 1 million global coronavirus deaths | ABC News” – below is their description.
The biggest pandemic in 100 years has notched up another milestone: a million deaths around the world. The death toll hit 100,000 in mid April as the virus took hold in Europe, and 500,000 in late June. Most of the dead have been older people. A review published in Nature in late August concluded that mortality climbs after 50 and climbs steeply after 60. After age — by far the biggest risk factor — comes sex, with males more at risk than females. Domestically, Victoria records 10 more cases and seven deaths, NSW records two more cases in hotel quarantine, WA logs eight cases on a cargo ship off the coast, and Queensland records none.
