Parents desperate to bring home children caught in Hubei coronavirus lockdown | ABC News
The Federal Government is planning to evacuate hundreds of Australians trapped in China as the deadly coronavirus continues to spread.
Those flown-out will be quarantined on Christmas Island for at least two weeks.
Anyone who has been able to return from Hubei province — the area at the centre of the crisis — is now being told to isolate themselves at home for 14 days.
The Foreign Minister says more than 600 Australians have registered as being in the province.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in China has jumped to almost 6,000. More than 130 people have died.
But the virus is now spreading to people who haven’t even been to China – with two such cases in Japan and Germany.
China correspondent Bill Birtles begins our coverage in Beijing.
