On Sunday, the BBC airs the first part of The Salisbury Poisonings drama, the dramatisation of events in 2018. DS Nick Bailey, who nearly died after coming into contact with Novichok, says he has been in a ‘dark place’ since then. Nick worked with the writers of the drama and Rafe Spall (who plays him) to make sure their story was told accurately. Since 2018 he has tried and failed to return to work as a police officer twice, and will try for ‘take three’ on Monday. Wiltshire Council’s Director of Public Health Tracy Daszkiewicz, found herself trying to protect thousands of people against an unknown danger and says the community will take years to shed the emotional effects. Tracy is also currently helping lead Wiltshire’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
