Jurassic Park Sequels Are Stupid, They Should Just Embrace It | IGN Opinion

IGN published this video item, entitled “Jurassic Park Sequels Are Stupid, They Should Just Embrace It | IGN Opinion” – below is their description.

Jurassic Park was one of the best action movies ever made. Jurassic World: Dominion, not so much. In this video, we’re going to look into how Universal can take some lessons from its other franchise, the Fast and Furious, to see what lessons Jurassic Park could take in its future dinosaur filled installments.

One of the main topics of discussion here is how the dinosaurs (like the T-Rex or the velociraptors) of Jurassic World could also be seen as movie monsters, similar to King Kong or Jaws. As successful as actors like Chris Pratt, Sam Neil, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern are at being box office draws, the real stars of Jurassic World movies are, of course, the dinosaurs. Not only is it okay if the characters and story take second billing to the featured creatures, it should be encouraged.

While Steven Spielberg created a mesmerizing masterpiece with the first Jurassic Park. It sets a high action movie bar to follow up. And the thing is, if you want to make a successful sequel, filmmakers are going to have to raise the stakes. Steven Spielberg did it himself with The Lost World, which had the trex running through the streets of San Diego. Jurassic World also followed up with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which didn’t really raise the stakes since it mostly took place in a mansion. Jurassic Park sequels try to raise the steaks, but they try and do it in a way that’s believable. But when you buy a movie ticket to a Jurassic World film, you already accept the fact, in that world, dinosaurs exist.

Dom and the rest of the family in the Fast and Furious franchise also understand that they need to increase the spectacle every movie. In F9 (Fast and Furious 9), they sent Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson into space with a Pontiac Fiero. That was one of the more successful Fast and Furious movies because Vin Diesel and company aren’t concerned that the plots and action scenes are believable. They’re only concern is that they’re fun.

New Jurassic Park sequels should also take that approach. Universal Studios will not make a better, smarter dinosaur adventure film than the original Jurassic Park so why try? Make like a brachiosaurus and be big and stupid. We give a lot of dumb blockbuster movies a pass by saying “they’re a ton of fun if you turn your brain off,” and equating them to theme park rides, but in this case, it all started with a theme park – maybe these movies SHOULD have more rollercoaster DNA.
