Business: Yahoo Buys IntoNow

Yahoo Inc. has bought IntoNow an iPhone application which deepens the social experience connecting audiences with television programmes. It is integrated with Facebook, Twitter, iTunes and Netflix and allows users to talk about the televisions programmes that they are watching.

The app senses which television programme is being watched by “listening” to audio waves. The same technology is used in music recognition applications popular on mobile phones.

IntoNow launched in January 2011 and was started by former Google executive Adam Cahan, who embarked on working life as a producer and cameraman making wildlife documentaries in Zaire for National Geographic.

The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Yahoo plans to expand the app beyond iPhones and desktop computers.
