The app senses which television programme is being watched by “listening” to audio waves. The same technology is used in music recognition applications popular on mobile phones.
IntoNow launched in January 2011 and was started by former Google executive Adam Cahan, who embarked on working life as a producer and cameraman making wildlife documentaries in Zaire for National Geographic.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Yahoo plans to expand the app beyond iPhones and desktop computers.
