Business: Sorenson Media Opens London Office

Sorenson Media, who specialise in online video encoding, have opened a London office and appointed Mark Lawson to head its operation.

Peter Csathy, CEO of Sorenson Media said of the expansion:

“Sorenson Media has long considered the benefits of establishing a European presence, especially considering our large international customer base. Opening a London office with Mark at the head was an ideal way to meet the needs of our important European-based customers. Mark is an accomplished veteran with notable successes in the digital media, consumer electronics, video and software markets, making him an invaluable asset to our company.”

Mark Lawson previously worked at DVBLogic as vice president of sales. Before that, he worked in content and studio relations for Phillips, securing site-licensing contracts with Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Sony BMG and Universal Music Group and helping to launch digital content watermarking company Civolution (spun out of Philips in 2008). Lawson has also worked as a sales leader with DivX, HomeMedia Networks, Nortel and others.

Sorenson Media has a sales presence in Korea and Japan, but claims that the European market accounts for 30% of its online revenue.
