Yahoo Finance published this video item, entitled “The lasting impact of labor strikes in 2023: Unions fought for better pay, protection from AI” – below is their description.

One of the defining movements for 2023 was the historic and industry-wide strikes, from Hollywood actors and writers to the United Auto Workers’ (UAW) picket line against the Big Three automakers. Through countless days spent on the picket line this year, guild representatives and labor unions were able to secure new contracts and better pay and benefits for their respective members.

Yahoo Finance Reporters Alexandra Canal and Pras Subramanian join the Live show to discuss the Number 4 Story of the Year and highlight what happened with this year’s most notable industry strikes and how they could be expected to shape US employment standards moving forward.

TikTok, known in China as Douyin, is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based Internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. It is used to create short music, lip-sync, dance, comedy and talent videos of 3 to 15 seconds, and short looping videos of 3 to 60 seconds.

ByteDance first launched Douyin for the Chinese market in September 2016. Later, TikTok was launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China; however, it only became available worldwide, including the United States, after merging with another Chinese social media service Musical.ly on 2 August 2018.
