Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida committed to pursuing a “strategic relationship of mutual benefit” during their meeting on the sidelines of the Apec summit in San Francisco on November 16, 2023. It was their first face-to-face talk in a year. Xi said the two countries should “focus on common interests and properly handle differences”. The meeting followed talks between Xi and US President Joe Biden.
