The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Watch New York and Las Vegas’ 2021 New Year celebrations” – below is their description.
New Year’s Eve in New York City is synonymous with Times Square and its annual ball drop, a century-old tradition that normally sees up to a million gather to watch the 12-feet-wide Waterford Crystal ball lowered to mark midnight.
This year, however, police cordoned off Times Square to the general public and organisers had to satisfy themselves with a much more limited affair streamed live.
The only guests able to attend in person were 40 essential workers, such as a grocery store employee, a Covid-19 tester and a teacher, plus their families. They were in separate, socially distanced sections.
In Las Vegas, crowds turned out to see the annual firework display, despite officials pleas to stay at home.
