A Victorian MP and 16 others are lucky to be alive after the light plane they were flying in lost power over a lake on the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong.

Frankston MP Paul Edbrooke was among a group of skydivers on board the Cessna Caravan, which crashed shortly after takeoff, just north of Barwon Heads airport.
