Tens of thousands of ethnic Armenians flee Nagorno-Karabakh region

More than 47,000 ethnic Armenian refugees have now fled Nagorno-Karabakh after Azerbaijani forces took control of the breakaway region in a lightning military operation.

Many packed their cars, vans and tractors with their belongings, while others fled by foot to the nearest village on the Armenian side of the border.

Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports from Goris, Armenia.
