The Covid inquiry started taking evidence from witnesses in June, but recently resumed to interrogate members of Boris Johnson’s inner circle at the start of the pandemic. Johnson’s former chief adviser, Dominic Cummings, gave evidence to the committee alongside Lee Cain, his director of communications at the time. Cummings said No 10 had been ‘hopeless’ for dealing with Coronavirus and suggested the UK could have avoided lockdowns with a proper test and trace system. The former aide went on to say ‘pretty much everyone’ in the cabinet agreed with him in calling Boris Johnson a ‘trolley’ because of his inconsistency
