Pakistan floods: Hundreds die as malaria, other diseases tear through country

Global News published this video item, entitled “Pakistan floods: Hundreds die as malaria, other diseases tear through country” – below is their description.

At least 324 people have died in Pakistan from malaria and other diseases tearing through the country’s flood-ravaged regions, according to authorities on Wednesday.

Doctors at medical facilities said they’ve seen the number of patients increase by 20 to 30 per cent because of the floods.

“That is because they are drinking the open (flood) waters, owing to which our gastro and malaria patients have increased in numbers,” Dr. Abdul Rauf said.

The Sindh provincial government said makeshift health facilities and mobile camps in flooded areas had treated more than 78,000 patients in the last 24 hours, and more than two million since July 1. It also confirmed 665 new malaria cases among internally displaced families over the same period, with another 9,201 suspected cases.
