In This Story: Lucy Letby

Lucy Letby, born on January 4, 1990, is a British former neonatal nurse and convicted serial killer. She gained notoriety for the murder of at least seven infants and the attempted murder of six others between June 2015 and June 2016, making her the most prolific serial killer of children in modern British history. Letby was working at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s intensive care unit, where she had newly qualified, when the spree of infant deaths and collapses began. Notably, these incidents stopped as soon as she was removed from clinical duties in June 2016.

Charged in November 2020, Letby faced a trial lasting almost a year, where unsettling methods were revealed: she injected infants with air or insulin, overfed them, physically assaulted them, and even stole confidential medical documents as mementos of her crimes. In August 2023, she was sentenced to life imprisonment with a whole life order for her crimes against 13 infants.
