When it began in 1854, the fair showcased agriculture and encouraged farming in the region. It has since grown into the biggest state fair in the country by daily attendance, pulling in millions of visitors for 12 days before Labor Day to test farming equipment, inspect livestock, learn about beekeeping and admire giant produce.
