A heavy hailstorm surprised the southern German city Reutlingen with a winter-like scenario on Friday (August 4), as hailstones turned the streets white.

In some areas, hailstones had fallen to a height of 30 centimetres (0.9 feet) and had to be removed by road clearance vehicles.

Traffic was temporarily interrupted, and some locals took to their own means to free sidewalks and garages.

The German Meteorological Service DWD predicted heavy thunderstorms coming in from the west overnight on Saturday (August 5).
