Global News published this video item, entitled “Foreign interference: Special rapporteur David Johnston testifies before committee | LIVE” – below is their description.
Canada’s Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs is expected to meet on Tuesday regarding the question of privilege related to the intimidation campaign by China against several members of Parliament.
David Johnston is set to appear at the committee investigating claims of foreign interference, as calls continue for his resignation as the government’s special rapporteur. He’s scheduled to appear for three hours.
Johnston, who was named special rapporteur by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to investigate claims of foreign interference, has been under scrutiny over reported ties to Trudeau and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.
He has faced renewed scrutiny from opposition MPs since releasing his interim report last month, which found an independent public inquiry — a forum opposition MPs have been seeking for a month to investigate the claims — was not warranted.
