Daily Mail published this video item, entitled “Driver and passengers rescued after taxi submerged in floodwater during New Year’s Eve storm chaos” – below is their description.

The New Year of 2024 began dull and damp for Britain today with wet and windy conditions forecast this week and drivers rescued from cars stranded in floodwater. The Met Office said low pressure will move towards the continent before a brief ridge of high pressure follows, then further weather fronts move in from the West. In Essex this morning, a taxi driver and their two passengers were rescued from a Mercedes Veto minibus which became submerged in 3.5ft of water near Ingatestone at about 7am – behind another vehicle which was also stranded in the flooding. Top wind gusts of 45mph are expected today across the south coast from Plymouth to Kent while they could hit 30mph in London . For those planning a New Year’s Day swim, sea surface temperatures around the UK are unlikely to rise above 10C (50F). Hundreds of areas remained on flood watch today following torrential rain in recent weeks, with 45 warnings and 190 alerts active from the Environment Agency today. Great Western Railway trains were hit by flooding between Swindon and Bristol today which shut the line and diverted trains between London and South Wales.
