Coronation: King’s Troop prepares for historic six-gun salute

The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Coronation: King’s Troop prepares for historic six-gun salute” – below is their description.

For the first time in British history a six-gun salute will be fired from Horseguards Parade for the King’s Coronation.

The salvo, fired by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, was moved from Green Park after Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in 1953 as nobody in Westminster Abbey had been able to hear the blasts.

State ceremonial events normally have guns fired sequentially. Salvos are only heard on Coronations and take place at the exact moment the crown touches the monarch’s head, so as to announce the news to the public.

Major Fran Sykes, Commanding Officer of King’s Troop, said preparations for the King’s Coronation are “a bit more detailed” than other state events or Trooping the Colour.

“There’s quite a lot of pressure on some very young people, some who have only been here six months.”
