At least 1 dead after New York parking garage collapses

Global News published this video item, entitled “At least 1 dead after New York parking garage collapses” – below is their description.

A parking garage collapsed Tuesday in lower Manhattan’s Financial District, killing at least one worker and injuring five as concrete floors fell on top of each other, according to local officials.

“We thought initially it was an earthquake, but then when we saw the cars, basically we thought it was a sinkhole. And that’s when we started gathering our belongings and yelled, ‘everybody, get out,’” a bystander who works nearby said.

The garage caved in around 4 p.m., a few blocks from City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge, and about half a mile (0.8 km) from the New York Stock Exchange.

“We have no reason to believe that it was anything other than a structural collapse,” New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell told reporters during an update.
