Officials in Alberta are expected to provide an update Saturday afternoon on the wildfire situation in the province and the latest on evacuation orders. As of Saturday morning, Alberta Wildfire reported 96 wildfires are burning across the province — 90 of which are in the forest protection area — and 28 are out of control.

The fires have destroyed or damaged 275 buildings across the province, including homes, businesses, outbuildings and other structures as they blazed a path of destruction ten times the size of the Calgary area.

Alberta Emergency Management Agency executive director Colin Blair said he couldn’t get into the details of when and where buildings were lost, adding local communities are still informing property owners.

On Friday, there were 23 states of local emergency, five band council resolutions and 17 evacuation orders in place. A provincial state of emergency also remains. The province said Friday 10,523 Albertans remain displaced because of wildfire evacuation orders.
