In Grandma’s Care: Grandmothers caring for Africa’s AIDS orphans

Crime Beat TV published this video item, entitled “In Grandma’s Care: Grandmothers caring for Africa’s AIDS orphans” – below is their description.

We don’t hear much about aids in Africa anymore— but the pandemic continues to wreak havoc , devastating communities and leaving 16 million orphans. The task of raising those aids orphans has fallen largely on African grandmothers—a heroic group of women who are doing the job of a missing generation. Some of these grandmother’s are raising 5, 10 even 15 or more children. Most of the grandmothers are poor and without a viable form of income. But they also battle discrimination, often having their land and other assets taken from them because they don’t have legal status in their country or community. 16×9 tells the story of these grandmothers and the Canadians grandmothers that have helped raise 21 million dollars to support the AIDS orphans and the grandmothers raising them.
