Cincinnati Bengals Special Teams Coach Darrin Simmons returns to In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to give us his final Bengals 2023 preview before the season starts on September 10th.
Coach Simmons has had an exciting training camp with the first true punter battle he has had in quite some time, with Kevin Huber being the Bengals punter for over 10 seasons. There are also battles for other spots on the special team units like gunner for the punt team and the return man for both punts and kickoffs. It will be interesting to see who makes the roster and who will just be special team players like Stanley Morgan has been for the past couple of seasons. Will an unexpected rookie not make the team because he doesn’t play special teams or will a surprise undrafted player make it because he does? Everything will be answered by Tuesday when the Bengals roster is cut to 53 players right in time for the season opener against the Clevland Browns.
