Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Thai island turns solar: Koh Jik wins sustainable energy award” – below is their description.
For decades a small Island in the gulf of Thailand lobbied the local government to join the National Electric Grid but the cost outweighed the benefits.
So the islanders of Koh Jik took matters into their own hands and went solar.
Now they have won a regional award for sustainable energy use, but they remain the exception to the rule.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from Koh Jik in the gulf of Thailand.
