Bloomberg Quicktake published this video item, entitled “UK’s Johnson Takes ‘Personal Responsibility’ for Pandemic Losses” – below is their description.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologized for the suffering and loss endured by Britons during the coronavirus pandemic as he took the stand to give his long-awaited evidence to the UK’s Covid-19 inquiry.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain and the loss and suffering of those victims and their families,” Johnson said. His opening remarks were interrupted by individuals who were then ordered out of the room by the inquiry chair, retired judge and cross-bench peer Heather Hallett, underlining the strong emotions surrounding his appearance.
Johnson’s two-day evidence session to the public inquiry follows months of testimony by a range of senior officials, scientists and ministers, some of whom have strongly criticized his leadership. Former Director of Communications Lee Cain said the pandemic was the “wrong crisis” for Johnson’s “skill set,” while former Deputy Cabinet Secretary Helen MacNamara said Covid rules were broken daily in Downing Street.
