Skyrocketing supermarket costs have many feeling the pinch every time they go through the checkout with food price inflation climbing to an 11 year high. Shoppers in the Melbourne suburb of Epping were left stunned at the price tag on this iceberg lettuce.. being sold for an astonishing $7.98 a head.
Capsicums have also been spotted at almost $19 a kilo in Sydney, pumpkins going for $15.50 in Melbourne.. and in Brisbane a punnet of blueberries has been seen as high as $19.95. Other household staples like instant coffee have increased by 50 percent this year.. with beef sausages up by around 20 percent.
The added pressure has left some Aussies on the brink.. with record demand for emergency food relief.
