We are joined by twice BAFTA nominated actress Judy Parfitt, who is nowadays perhaps best known for playing Sister Monica Joan in the BBC hit ‘Call the Midwife’. In the series, her character is living with dementia, which is currently undiagnosed, but the other nurses and nuns are aware she is showing symptoms and requires some extra looking after. Dementia is a condition close to Judy’s heart off-screen, as she lost her husband Tony to the condition in 2001. Today Judy joins us to tell us about her new role as an Ambassador for Dementia UK and their Time for a Cuppa campaign which she is supporting. She also tells us about the reaction she has received portraying Sister Monica Joan’s dementia, how she prevents herself from feeling lonely and whether she would ever take a dementia test herself.
From series 24, broadcast on 06/02/20
