Andy Murray, Britain’s World Number three tennis player and this year’s Wimbledon Champion, is recovering in hospital following back surgery on a disc which has been troubling him this season.
The injury, which kept him out of the 2013 French Open, has been operated on by surgeons. Murray, 26, tweeted the picture (above) after coming round from his operation, saying “Thanks for all the well wishes, means a lot to me…” on the afternoon of 23 September 2013.
Murray had played some of the best tennis of his career to lift the Wimbledon trophy, but looked in some discomfort when falling out of the US Open at the Quarter Final stage. He took the decision to have surgery after experiencing back pain during a Davis Cup tie against Croatia on 13 September.
Murray is expected to miss the rest of the 2013 season, but will be back in pre-season training in November in Miami.
