South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Canine competition sniffs out China’s best detection dogs from fire departments across the nation” – below is their description.
A recent competition in southwestern China has tracked down the nation’s top sniffer dogs through a series of tests of skills such as basic obedience, target search and rescues, field target search and rescues as well as search and rescues in building ruins. The four-day competition took place in Anning in the southwestern province of Yunnan province starting on September 24, 2021. A total of 124 fire rescue sniffer dogs from across the country competed in the events organised to improve the overall working capabilities of animals and handlers in real-world situations. Sniffer dogs often join rescue and search operations after earthquakes, landslides and collapses, where teams rely on the animals’ keen sense of smell to find victims in challenging environments.
