I applaud Scarlett for highlighting this problem that many have lived with for years as water companies have failed to invest in essential infrastructure. I live in one such community in Deal in Kent and we have suffered 11 flooding events in the last 15 years. We even took the matter to OFWAT to no avail as there are so many exclusions available to water companies to absolve them of their responsibility and, in effect, make the regulator unable to take action. There needs to be action at the level of central government to amend the Water Industry Act to give the regulator powers to do its job properly.
