West Hollywood to Ban Fur Sales

John D'Amico

West Hollywood City Council in California is in the process of drafting legislation to ban the sale of fur products in the famous film hub. The council is working with local organisations and businesses to promote the city as a destination for “humane shopping”.

West Hollywood Councilmember John D’Amico explained:

“For our City, this is both good policy and a good business opportunity. West Hollywood is poised to position itself as a humane, thoughtful place and to extend that invitation to people from around the world who visit here as well as those who do business here. This is about who we are and the way we live now.”

The City of West Hollywood was the first City in the United States to outlaw cat declawing. The retail sale of dogs and cats from pet stores in West Hollywood is banned to encourage the re-homing and rescue of existing pets in the area rather than the import or breeding of new ones.
