Violence mars Venezuela opposition referendum

Violence has marred an unofficial referendum staged by the opposition in Venezuela.

One person was killed when a gang allegedly shot at a crowd of voters.

Opposition parties organised the vote to ask people if they want the government of President Nicolas Maduro to change the constitution without consulting them first.

President Maduro says it is the only way to beat the economic crisis and restore peace.

Al Jazeera’s John Holman reports from Cucuta, Colombia.
