Sebastian Vettel has comfortably won the Belgian Grand Prix, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton started on pole position with Vettel in second, but the placing was not to last as the Red Bull leader quickly overtook Hamilton after the first few corners and maintained his leading position for the rest of the race. Alonso took third position after just six laps, by which time Vettel had opened up a 3.9 second lead.

Vettel said of his win:

“I don’t think we expected to be dominant here, and it surprised all of us actually; it’s a great result.I think we knew going into the race that our race pace, compared with Mercedes, maybe gave us a little in hand, but we didn’t know where we were inrelation to the others, especially Ferrari, and Lotus looked very quick in dry conditions also. It wasn’t clear if the rain was going to come at the end of the race, so we kept pushing, but the gap we had by that stage meant we were able to control the race from there and the last couple of laps weren’t too stressful.”

Seb’s second win at Spa means he is now a full 46 points clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with 197 to second-placed Fernando Alonso’s 151.
