UK General Election 2010: Labour Hold Washington & Sunderland West

UK General Election 2010 continues, with Washington & Sunderland West who were the second ward to officially declare their result.

Sharon Hodgson, the Labour candidate, has won Washington & Sunderland West – taking 19,615 votes – with 52.5% of the 37,334 votes cast.

  • Sharon Hodgson – Labour – 19,615
  • Ian Cuthbert – Conservative – 8,157
  • Peter Andras – Liberal Democrat – 6,382
  • Ian McDonald – British National Party – 1,913
  • Linda Hudson – UK Independence Party – 1,267

The overall turnout is up 6.8% on 2005, while the Labour candidate received a 12.3% lower amount of votes in the same period, with the main gains going to the Conservative (up 6.8%) and Liberal Democrat candidates (up 0.9%).
