The second match week of UEFA Champions League 2014/15 concluded on the evening of Wednesday 1 October 2014, when eight teams met in groups A, B, C and D.
Group C Results, Wed 1 Oct 2014
The evening began in Russia, where Zenit St Petersburg took on Monaco in the night’s early kickoff. The teams played out a 0-0 draw in a match which was every bit as even as the scoreline suggests: possession 51:49 and shots on target 3:3.
Monaco and Zenit ended the evening joint leaders of Group C, on four points, after Bayer Leverkusen picked up their first win courtesy of a 3-1 home victory over Benfica, who remain pointless. Leverkusen hugely outclassed their visitors, leading 2-0 at half time, before Salvio pulled a goal back with Benfica’s only shot on target on 62 minutes. Just two minutes later, Hakan Çalhanoğlu restored the host’s two goal cushion with a well taken penalty on 64 minutes, before Leverkusen played out the remaining minutes somewhat cosily.

Group B Results, Wed 1 Oct 2014
|Ludogorets|| 1-2||Real Madrid|
Group B also had an interesting set of performances. First, Ludogorets, who were only just overcome by Liverpool a fortnight ago, went 1-0 in front at home to the mighty Real Madrid, only to be pegged back by a 24th minute Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and a 77th minute Benzema strike to end, once more, 2-1 losers. Later the final whistle would blow in Switzerland where an even encounter between Basel and Liverpool FC had finished 1-0 to the hosts, following a 52nd minute winner from Streller which places the Premier League side under a little pressure, third in the group with two played.

Group D Results, Wed 1 Oct 2014
In Group D, Dortmund won 3-0 away to Anderlecht to maintain their 100% record, while Arsenal recorded an impressive victory by the same margin, winning 4-1 at home to Galatasaray, thanks in large part to a Danny Welbeck hat-trick. This win puts the Gunners second in the group on three points. Galatasaray and Anderlecht are third and fourth respectively, on one point each.
