A quarter of Moldova’s labor force works abroad. But with lockdowns costing many Moldovan expatriates work, the money they send back home has decreased while domestic revenue has fallen. To help protect Moldova’s spending on social and health programs, the IMF has agreed to an emergency loan of $235 million, with a staff-level agreement to provide an additional $558 million for economic reforms.
