Stanford published this video item, entitled “Deliberative Democracy, Social Learning, and Conscious Conversation for Wise Foreign Policy” – below is their description.
Leading scholars of democracy, Stanford professors Larry Diamond, PhD and Francis Fukuyama, PhD and Foreign Affairs editor Gideon Rose, discuss how to facilitate effective collective action at home and abroad through mature introspection, self-aware public discourse, and social learning. Diamond, Fukuyama and Rose discuss the power of empathy, conscious communication, respectful dialogue, and deliberative democracy as effective ways out of the all too prevalent polarizing political discourse that preys on fear. Their work offers hope that a contemplative approach can help solve our biggest problems, such as the pandemic, economic strife, racial injustice, and climate change, by developing the capacity to skillfully engage in the complexity of these issues. Instructors: Prof. Larry Diamond, Prof Francis Fukuyama, Dr. Gideon Rose
