“The Office – An American Workplace” – Season 5, Episode 21

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are the executive producers in the American series of The Office. Taking over from the lead role is superstar comedian, Steve Carrel (Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin), who makes a stunning play of the role of an incompetent boss.

Set in an ailing paper company, all hell breaks loose when the party planning budget has to be cut – curtailing Michael’s celebrations of 15 years at the company. He drives to the HQ to announce his resignation. Episode 21 picks up the tale:

After quitting his job at Dunder Mifflin, Michael concentrates on wasting as much time at work as possible. Meanwhile, Pam battles the photocopier and Kelly seems to have a crush on the new boss.

UK audiences are now able to compare the US and UK versions of the hit series which brought Ricky Gervais to comedy notoriety. The creator of the original series suggests that viewers should “dip in” and check out one of the 125 episodes. Although there was controversy in the UK over whether the jokes would travel, The Office – An American Workplace is arguably better than the British original.

“The Office – An American Workplace” – Season 5, Episode 21 will air on Comedy Central on 23rd February 2011 at 10pm in the UK.
