Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall has celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Queen Victoria ocean liner in Southampton on Thursday 13th December 2012. The Duchess named the ship when it was first launched.
A new portrait of the Duchess by Richard Stone was unveiled. The Duchess sat for Mr Stone three times at Clarence House to enable the painting of the picture.
The visit by the Duchess was also part of a reciprocal agreement with Cunard and The Prince’s Trust. Cunard is a gold patron of The Prince’s Trust and recently gave work placements to twelve unemployed people under the age of 23 to give them “the skills and confidence” to find a job in the customer services industry. The Duchess presented the young people with certificates for completing the Trust’s “Get into Customer Service” programme.
The Duchess was then taken on a tour of the ship by the captain, Peter Philpott, and treated to a lunch which included a commemorative birthday cake for the ship.
