The third day’s play in the third Ashes 2009 test match between England and Australia has been abandoned for the day due to persistent rain.
The umpires called off the rest of the day a short while ago as the already damp outfield did not have time to dry out as rain still fell.
It is hoped the teams will resume tomorrow with England on 116 for 2 in their first innings chasing an Australian total of 263 all out.
The weather is forecast to have at least one shower tomorrow, and Monday is more of the same, so hopes of a positive result are diminishing fast.
Wickets will have to tumble tomorrow if we are to see the England 1-0 Australia scoreline change before we move to Headingley on Friday.
If this match is drawn, England will be happy to have their 1 win on the board as the long term forecast predicts there may be a shower or two at Leeds too – England’s odds to win the series are shortening by the minute.
